Grammar Year 3 Handbook - Created by Teachers in Chenor and Jempol

Teachers and Mentors in Chenor and Jempol have collaboratively created a very useful resource for all Year 3 KSSR English teachers, The Grammar Year 3 Handbook.  The handbook is a compilation of best practices for every grammar lesson in the Year 3 KSSR textbook.

After teachers came forward about the lack of interesting and learner-centered instruction ideas, Tom and Sarah worked to provide one-on-one assistance and school-based CPDs to help teachers make grammar fun and supportive of student learning.

The results have been great and teachers were so enthusiastic about the new methods and activities for grammar that one teacher suggested we make a handbook for all teachers to use and share.  Thanks Latifah Binti Nat Nor for the suggestion!

ICT & HOTS in Phonics Instruction @ SK Jengka 6

Teachers at SK Jengka 6 have been using ICT and HOTS in their phonics instruction.  Implementing technology and higher order thinking skills are important for any subject, but make a visible impact regarding phonics.  Great work Norhayatunnupus Bt Mohd Sam and Naziha Bt Awang Mahat!

--Sarah Higgs, Jempol

Naziha utilizes several different HOTS techniques for teaching and for student assessment!

Ayu introduces the Letter H, uses Jolly Phonics Videos and Sings to drill with her Year 1!

Then she finishes with a group activity that uses HOTS to sort phonemes and match them with the correct picture.

Sports Day @ SK Jengka 4

Sports Day at SK Jengka 4 was hosted on Sunday, 24th May, 2015.  Tom James and I were fortunate enough to be invited to this event, and were very impressed at both the sportsmanship of the students, and the commitment of the teachers to the students' physical education.  Even the Headmaster got involved, and was helping the students with the correct form for warm-up and cool-down exercises.  Many parents were also involved with the event, as it also involved the PTA.

Teachers VS Students @ SK Jengka 19

Selamat Hari Guru!

I celebrated Hari Guru with all my schools, however, I was invited to participate in the Teachers VS Students Games Day at SK Jengka 19.  In addition to being on the teacher's team, I also assisted with several activities and helped out during the teacher's performances for the students.  Thanks SK Jengka 19 for making me feel part of the team!

Brighton Kids English Club XVII

For our latest Kids Club meeting, we had eleven members and a whirlwind of activity!
We started the evening with revision, puzzles and Q&A, then created a pavement game using chalk! We used the game surface to play a game called LAVA and work with speaking in different verb tenses. The children hopped from verb to verb and answered questions for each while trying not to fall into the lava!
When our game was washed away and the thunder frightened us back into shelter, we took some time to make beautiful colored pictures of our favourite characters: Iron Man, Elsa, and Angry Birds. After that, we selected books and challenged ourselves with some new, and very difficult, books. Finally, exhausted, we queued for snacks, and settled down to enjoy them as the thunder and rain pounded around us.
It was quite an adventure for us all, and we're looking forward to our next meeting in June!

English Learning Centre @ SK Kertau

TELL2 teachers Muhamad Harris Imran Bin Jamaludin and Engku Aishatul Ruhi Bt Engku Arif, as well as TELL2 mentors Tom James and Sarah Higgs, have been working extremely hard to complete SK Kertau's first English Learning Centre.  The previously  unused space has been converted into an open plan classroom with many relevant displays for all years, 1-6.  Muhd Harris notes that, "Using the English Learning Centre will be good for the pupils.  They can be excited to learn there and can be motivated.  We will start using it after the completion of exams this week."

Great work SK Kertau!

Brighton Kids English Club XVI

Our first Kids Club in May involved several new activities incorporating both new and old material. We played a card game to revise Q&A with actions, introduced new ways to speak about time using "tomorrow" and "yesterday", played with sentence scrambles, and did both pair reading and group reading! Everyone showed great energy and enthusiasm, and our reading pairs worked together very well. Each member helped his or her partner with difficult words, and when reading as a group, everyone participated, and asked very good questions! Good job, everyone!

Arts and Culture Carnival

On Saturday, May 9th, SK Chedong Jaya (Maran, Luit) participated in the Arts and Culture Carnival at SMK Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom in Kuantan. This event included a number of primary and junior high schools, all of whom contributed to specific aspects of Malaysian arts and culture. There were traditional Malay, Chinese, and Indian foods, games, clothing, music and instruments, and even Silat Malayu -Malaysian martial arts! There were dances and singing performances from many schools, and lots of food and recipe books prepared by the pupils themselves!
The culture booths, performances, demonstrations, and games showcased the hard work and enthusiasm for the arts held by all the pupils of the participating schools, and demonstrate the promise and talent carried by the individuals and their cultures in these wonderful schools. Thank you to Sumi (SMK SHK) for all her hard work in preparing this event!
Enjoy the photos! (And be sure to check the video at the very bottom of the page!)
