Brighton Football Club II

Welcome to Brighton Football Club II (January 25) in Maran! We had ten members turn up this time, and everyone was very enthusiastic about our new equipment! The match was competitive, but clean, and several of the players tried very hard to communicate in English. It takes a lot of courage to ask questions and hold a conversation in a foreign language, but I'm very proud of everyone who tried! Let's develop our English and football skills together! Thanks to everyone who joined this week for their efforts!

Brighton Football PREMIER!

On Sunday, January 18th, due to popular demand, we had our first Brighton Football Club meeting in Maran at a local pitch. Despite the fact that we had absolutely no equipment (except a non-regulation ball) the turnout was amazing! We had SIXTEEN players (15 boys and 1 girl!), with Marshall (ELC, Maran) as referee. The game was a bit one-sided (5-2), but everyone had a GREAT time, and once the initial (inevitable) shyness had passed, I began to hear some English filtering into the game. SCORE!

Maran Cluster Flood Relief and School Cleanup

During the first week of January, participants from Maran cluster helped to clean up some of the schools devastated by December's massive rains and flooding. While much of the school property was damaged or ruined completely, the hearts and smiles of the participants kept everyone going throughout this very difficult time. Donations have poured into the shelters, and volunteers have raided all the hardware stores in town for gum boots and gloves. Thank you everyone who helped, and to those affected by the floods, our hearts and prayers go out to you and your families in this time of need.
